The Arrival of Nako Tako

Cheto Castellano is a Chilean artist who began incorporating a strange character into his artwork after living in the US and China. This character, Nako Tako, wears a Ronald McDonald costume with a Latin American Lucha Libre mask—he is an anonymous character from the “other” side of the border, appearing first in drawings and paintings, and later transforming into a performance avatar. Crossing Latin Amerian icons with multinational symbols, Castellano explores the underbelly of a global economic and political system that produces second class "citizens" and that depends on contemporary slaves...

Elena Tejada-Herrera’s work pushes the boundaries between comfort and community. Her evocative live art performances challenge her viewers, forcing them to question how they internalize the codes of propriety that structure everday behavior. Elena was born in Peru where she studied as a painter and started performing in 1997. She currently resides in Miami, Florida.

Adriana Garcia is a printmaker based in Mexico. She lived in California for one year before returning to Mexico due to immigration complications. Her series, Another day in Paraiso Prometido, was created during her stay in California, and explores the dark side of living in the promised land.

Fulana is a media collective that emerged as the "vision-fusion" of four New York-based Latina artists. Through parody and satire they explore themes that are relevant to Latino cultures in the U.S. Focusing on the role of mass media in popular culture, they politically subvert the construction and commodification of Latino culture.Their critical parodies which include mock television commercials, music videos and print advertisements employ an aesthetic that ranges from "cable-access kitsch to Telemundo tinsel."
  Meleko Mokgosi

Supersensuous Thing"

Meleko Mokgosi is an artist from Botswana who has lived/studied in London and is currently based in the US. Mokgosi’s large-scale oil paintings construct imaginaries that problematize and reject the fetishized portrayal of African social landscapes, while drawing attention to the excess found in Western culture.
